Udaipur - a city of lakes, palaces and gardens is one of the most fascinating places to explore for a traveller. A scenic city whose natural charms are further enhanced by its built heritage. In its vicinity, in the broader Mewar region - a formerly independent kingdom of which Udaipur was the last capital, lie the historic forts of Chittor and Kumbhalgarh, Haldighati -one of the most famous battlefields in the subcontinent, medieval and ancient temples - including the spectacularly carved white marble monuments at Ranakpur, and the popular ones at Eklingji and Nathdwara. The rolling hills, dense forests, massive lakes, streams and grasslands make this an amazing place to travel to. This guide is based on my own experience of exploring the region over the past three decades as well as the experiences of over a hundred travellers from around the world, for whom I've prepared customised travel plans to explore the region, in the past 7 years. It contains recommendations on places to see, things to do, where and what to eat, where to stay and how to plan your itinerary. Practical tips as well as details in terms of entry fee, time needed (to explore and commute between places) and hand drawn maps - both of the city and the region, are also part of this e book.
