About the Book:
Dr Shri Ram Sharma’s aim in life was to unveil past tradition and culture for future generations. Though linguistic study and research was primary objective of one of the author's research projects he also got interested in how the trade and commerce was handled in India prior to East India Company and advent of Railways in India. What were social customs, beliefs, traditions and cultural aspects of vibrant Banjara Tribe who played an important role in moving the wheels of commerce in India prior to arrival of East India Company in India.
In his quest for getting an insight into culture, traditions, social customs, beliefs, folklore and livelihood of Banjara Tribe (nomadic tribe of India), Dr Sharma visited over 200 Tandas (habitats) of Banjaras across length and breadth of India. This book on Banjara's Literature is compilation of his research work and painstaking efforts of collecting, analysing, classifying folklore and literature of Banjaras. Dr Sharma painstakingly collected material by personally visiting more than 200 Tandas (habitats) of Banjaras. Further he scanned material in various libraries, museums, state archives, various gazettes interacted with Banjaras of all ages and recorded traditional songs and stories in various Tandas which he visited to collect crucial information on Banjaras.
This book highlights glorious traditions and rich literature of Banjaras.
This book was earlier published in print form. On popular demand it is now being presented in eBook form. It is planned to bring out English translation of this book in near future.
About the Author:
Dr Shri Ram Sharma was an eminent scholar and Professor of Hindi at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. He was closely associated with two great scholars – Rahul Sanskrityayan and Professor Suniti Kumar Chatterjee. This association inspired Dr Sharma to take up indepth study and research in the fields of Linguistics, History and Traditions of Banjaras (a nomadic tribe of India).
He has authored around thirty books and written over 500 articles on various subjects such as Linguistics (specially origin & growth of Dakhini Hindi language), Sociology (Banjara tribe), Hindi and Urdu literature, Grammar and History. He was prolific writer and regularly contributed to leading national newspapers & magazines in India and abroad. Many scholars from India and overseas were guided by him for their Ph. D research work. Dr Sharma had multifaceted personality. He actively participated in various cultural and social forums and promoted many budding authors, poets and artists.
Dr Sharma has written some interesting historical novels as well after living through a part of history himself by being a freedom fighter and spending some time as political prisoner due to taking active part in freedom struggle to liberate Hyderabad from Nizam’s rule and Razakar movement.
