(Once Upon a Time Friends) : 11 year old school students, Vijay, Saathvik and Jyoti make a short, eventful journey to a neighbouring school in small-town Rajasthan to participate in Independence Day Quiz contest. The boys eventually win the cliff hanger but the joy of winning the event is tempered with a demeaning, humiliating experience, an evidence of the stark reality of the oppressive caste system still prevalent in parts of India. The friends attempt to move on in the unreasonable, absurd, caste-ridden, convoluted and sometimes violent world of adults helped by their friendship, and by their shared interests in anything naughty, puckish and mischievous. Whether their friendship survives the tumult of growing up and the contrasts in their economic backgrounds, upbringing as well as differences in their own academic prowess, values, beliefs, attitudes, perceptions, ethics, ambitions is the answer Once Upon a Time Friends seeks.
